Work plACE ergonomicS

At Renew, we provide on-site services designed to improve the health and well-being of your workforce.
Our team of experienced Physio- and Occupational Therapists specializes in managing musculoskeletal disorders that may be caused or aggravated by workplace conditions. Early and appropriate intervention is crucial in preventing chronic issues, supporting faster recovery, and reducing absenteeism—ultimately lowering costs for employers.
Our goal is to optimize each individual’s working environment to enhance efficiency, comfort, and overall productivity in the workplace.
As part of our service, one of our qualified professionals will visit your site to conduct individual workstation assessments. Following the evaluation, a detailed written report will be provided to the employer. This report serves as both a reference tool and an official document outlining tailored recommendations for improving each employee’s workstation setup. This service can be conducted for an individual employee experiencing symptoms or on an entire work place. Feel free to contact us with any information you may have.

Common Ergonomic Conditions:
  • Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS):
This condition affects the wrist and hand, causing numbness, tingling, and pain due to compression of the median nerve in the wrist.
  • Tendinitis:
Inflammation of the tendons, which connect muscles to bones, causing pain, stiffness, and reduced range of motion.
  • Lower Back Pain:
A common musculoskeletal issue that can result from poor posture, lifting heavy objects, or spending long periods sitting or standing.
  • Neck Pain:
Often caused by poor posture, prolonged computer use, or improper workstation setup, leading to pain, stiffness, and limited neck movement.
  • Shoulder Pain:
Can be caused by poor posture, repetitive overhead movements, or overuse, resulting in pain, stiffness, and reduced shoulder function.
  • Eye Strain:
A common condition among individuals who spend extended periods looking at computer screens, causing eye fatigue, headaches, and blurred vision.
  • Repetitive Strain Injury (RSI):
A broad term encompassing conditions that affect muscles, tendons, and nerves due to repetitive movements or forceful exertions.
  • Tennis Elbow (Lateral Epicondylitis):
Inflammation of the tendons on the outer side of the elbow, causing pain and tenderness, particularly with gripping or lifting.
  • Trigger Finger (Stenosing Tenosynovitis):
A condition that affects the fingers, causing them to become stuck in a bent position due to inflammation of the tendons.
  • De Quervain's Tenosynovitis:
Inflammation of the tendons on the thumb side of the wrist, causing pain and tenderness with thumb movements.
  • Rotator Cuff Injuries:
Damage to the muscles and tendons that surround the shoulder joint, causing pain, weakness, and reduced range of motion.
  • Epicondylitis:
Inflammation of the tendons on the inner or outer side of the elbow, causing pain and tenderness with movement or gripping.
  • Muscle strains and low back injuries:
These can occur due to forceful exertion, awkward postures, or repetitive movements, resulting in pain, stiffness, and limited movement.

Causes of Ergonomic Conditions:
  • Repetitive Movements:
Performing the same task repeatedly can strain muscles and tendons.
  • Awkward Postures:
Maintaining unnatural body positions for extended periods can stress muscles and joints.
  • Poor Posture:
Slouching, hunching, or maintaining incorrect postures can lead to pain and discomfort.
  • Forceful Exertion:
Lifting heavy objects, pushing or pulling, or using excessive force can strain muscles and joints.
  • Vibration:
Exposure to vibrating tools or equipment can cause hand-arm vibration syndrome (HAVS) and other health problems.
  • Poorly Designed Workspaces:
Workstations that are not ergonomically designed can increase the risk of injuries.
  • Manual Handling of Loads:
Lifting, pushing, or pulling heavy objects can cause back injuries and other body part injuries.
  • Sedentary Work:
Spending prolonged periods sitting without breaks can lead to musculoskeletal disorders and other health problems.
  • Insufficient Rest Breaks:
Not taking adequate breaks during work can lead to fatigue and increased risk of injuries.
  • Environmental Factors:
Factors like lighting, temperature, and noise can contribute to ergonomic hazards.
  • Direct Pressure:
Pressing against hard surfaces or sharp edges can cause localized pressure injuries.
  • Cold Temperatures:
Working in cold environments can increase the risk of musculoskeletal disorders, especially in combination with other risk factors.
